Modelling of Infectious Diseases in South East Asia (MIDSEA)

Dr. May Anne Mata, our esteemed center director, recently had the honor of being invited as a distinguished speaker at the Modelling of Infectious Diseases in South East Asia (MIDSEA) Network's Modeling in Policy Symposium hosted at the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, National University of Singapore. During her session entitled, “Model Communication to Policy Makers, the Media, and the General Public: A Mathematician’s Reflection from the Southern Philippines,” Dr. Mata shared invaluable insights into our center's efforts and achievements in effectively communicating mathematical models to various stakeholders.

From our inception as AMDABiDSS-Health to our evolution into the DiWA Center, we have taken a proactive approach in managing all communication channels, harnessing their capabilities to bridge gaps and effectively convey our research results and progress, particularly through social media platforms.

Dr. Mata's presentation shed light on the importance of clear and accessible communication in translating complex mathematical models into actionable insights for policy makers, the media, and the general public. By leveraging innovative communication strategies and utilizing digital platforms, we have successfully disseminated vital information, fostering greater understanding and engagement with our research findings.
