First Ever Balik-Scientist
The Department of Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science (DMPCS) at UP Mindanao proudly welcomed its first Balik-Scientist Awardee, Assoc. Prof. Edwin Tecarro, Ph.D., courtesy of the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD). Dr. Tecarro's arrival was eagerly awaited, and the Mindanao Center for Disease Watch and Analytics (DiWA) spearheaded the arrangements and preparations for his visit, which took place from October 16 to October 21, 2023.
Dr. Tecarro is a distinguished academician who hails from the University of Houston-Downtown in Houston, Texas, USA, where he has served as a tenured professor since 2004. His expertise spans across the fields of mathematics and science, making him an invaluable addition to the academic community at UP Mindanao.
During his stay, Dr. Tecarro not only engaged in collaborative discussions with faculty members and students but also participated in the MSP Regional Research Convention. His contributions were instrumental in enriching the discourse surrounding dynamical systems and mathematical theories applied to unravel intricate biological phenomena.
Beyond his scholarly achievements, Dr. Tecarro is recognized for his memberships in esteemed organizations such as the Mathematical Association of America and the Philippine-American Academy of Science and Engineering.
